Depending on where you live, we can either set up live tutoring sessions or online sessions. I'm just outside of Philadelphia, and often travel to New York City - so if live sessions are preferred we can probably make them happen anywhere between Philly and NY. Alternately, we could set up a combination of the two.
Online sessions are just as effective as those that take place in-person and have the potential to engage your student even more effectively than sitting side by side. Why? Because all or many of the resources we need are immediately available to us online. For instance, I may want to refer your student to a story or essay that addresses a topic we've unexpectedly landed on. Instead of waiting until our next session to discuss, I can most likely Google the piece for us to read together right away.
Online sessions also enable the following:
Swift and easy collaboration over the platform I use
The ability for me to "enter into" the area of writing we're focusing on (to dip into a sentence, for instance) and demonstrate, as needed, how to correct mistakes or missteps
Automatic saving of notes, transcripts of sessions, and drafts of essays or other writing
Comfort: your student doesn't have to leave home and meet me at the library or other venue
